Sharing the gift of HOPE,one child at a time

Hope Abigail "Abby"

September 23 - October 5, 2010

No matter what the circumstance may be, losing a child is more devastating than words can describe.
After our journey with our daughter Abby, we wanted to help other families
going through a similar experience.

Changing of the Season

Abby's Gift of Hope Foundation began as a 501c3 nonprofit in 2011, was 100% volunteer operated, and assisted children and families in 14 states.

This allowed donations to go directly to our mission and purpose for nine years. We were governed by a board of directors and a medical advisory team. Assistance provided to patients/families was based solely upon recommendations from the patient physician, hospice nurse, or social worker. Thousands upon thousands of children and families were blessed by the donations of gracious and dedicated donors.

In the summer of 2019, we felt the Lord moving, nudging, and prompting the organization in a different direction, yet no one had an idea of what this meant or looked like so we continued business as usual...except praying fervently that His will continue to be done and that He provide a glimpse to us of the next season. As the months passed, meeting after meeting, prayer after prayer, the pieces of the puzzle were becoming clearer yet not easy. Doors were opening that we never knocked on, for things we never dreamed. And, things we did desire and dream, were beginning to happen without us even trying:

  • meeting face to face with families and children (90% of the last nine years was through social workers)

  • speaking to organizations about grief and how to support those in this journey

  • getting resources (2 books) out to those that need them most (1,500 copies of The Story of Hope: Helping Children Express Feelings of Grief and Loss were donated/sent to Texas elementary school counselors and we were met with surprising amounts of notes, emails, and comments of how much they “desperately needed a resource like this”)

The verse we built this organization on remains strong, even though the daily operations and mission may change:

Romans 12:8

If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability,
take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

With so much prayer and bittersweet feelings, January 01, 2020, begins a new season. Abby’s Gift of Hope Foundation, the nonprofit ends; however, Abby’s Gift, the ministry, continues on.

What does this look like?

We have solid pieces of the puzzle that are crystal clear, we have glimpses of other pieces that we are trusting the Lord continues to reveal, and for the puzzle pieces we don’t even know about yet...we have no doubt He will prepare our hearts and provide the courage and strength to walk strong in the calling as we have done for nine beautiful years.

Seasons come and seasons go but the Lord’s mercy and grace never end or fail. Our Hope Abigail “Abby” would celebrate her 10th birthday September 23, 2020. Her legacy is strong and our hearts for this ministry remain just as strong. We are excited to begin to share pieces of this new season of ministry and hope you will continue to join us in prayer and volunteering as you feel led. As we have said from the beginning...God doesn’t bless us just to bless us. He blesses us so that we can pass on His blessings to others. And this, we indeed, intend to continue.

For nine beautiful, nonprofit years, we thank you, from the bottom of our hearts and with ALL THE LOVE OUR HEARTS CAN HOLD.

Onward we go with much anticipation and excitement,

Clyde, Melinda, Ashlin, and Abby
